New from Ford in Los Angeles
LOS ANGELES, Calif. — As thousands of Occupy L.A. protesters prepared for a walk to this city’s Bank of America Plaza last week, Ford Motor Company got ready for a march of its own into the Los Angeles Convention Centre.
But while that Occupy movement was directed by and large against economic and social inequality, the Ford march focused more on a complete redesign of North America’s best-selling compact SUV and a jaw-dropping 610-horse-power Shelby GT.
And just as that protest and the world premiere of those two blue-oval offerings created some buzz throughout L.A. and during media days at the LA Auto Show last week, especially the latter with its ’most-powerful-production V8-in-the-world’ designation, Ford also had a few other goodies to showcase in its massive West Hall display area.
Along with the 2013 Escape and Shelby GT500, Ford pulled the covers off the 2013 Mustang, Mustang Boss 302, and its popular Flex.
Its luxury division, Lincoln, also premiered to the planet the updated 2013 MKS full-size luxury sedan and the 2013 MKT full-size luxury crossover .
Here’s a preview of the new Escape, Flex, and the trio of Mustang offerings for 2013 (check out thechronicleherald.ca/wheels/news for highlights and photos of the new Lincoln MKS and MKT).
Ford’s 2013 Escape
The completely-redesigned Escape drove through a wall and onto a stage in front of what appeared to be the largest media crowd for any of the two media-day manufacturer presentations with a sporty, sleek new exterior design.
That new design resulted in increased cargo capacity from the previous model as it now has 1,928 litres of space behind the first row and 971 litres behind the second row. A lower lift-over height of 68.6 cm now makes it easier to load and unload cargo through the new Escape’s rear hatch.
Those seats also shed almost three pounds and added two-way power recline and two-way power lumbar support in addition to its familiar six-way movement. A sport seat with higher bolsters and a distinct sew style is also available.

A vented sub? - Car Audio Forum
I want to put a sub in a classic convertible car. There is no way to put a typical sub box in the car because of the top when it's down. I have been out of the car audio thing for a good while. I remember a speaker company ( I think Boston Acoustics) had a small sub with a flexible "vent tube" that channeled the bass into the car. Does anyone make something like this anymore? Can it be made as DIY?
