Fifth grade students at Summit Christian Academy marked the 70th Anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor with special guest speakers. Mike and Janice McGraw, grandparents of Makenna McGraw, spoke about the experiences of Mrs. McGraw’s father, Sgt. Norman L. Purdy, who was a ball turret gunner on a B-17 and flew into Germany to fight against the Nazis. SCA parent Marlo Knapp spoke of her great uncle, Armstead Davis, who served in the 2nd Armored Division in Germany during the war. Students and parents were invited to bring in items and share stories about Pearl Harbor and/or World War II. Students were very interested in seeing uniforms, medals, badges, and a German Luger that was retrieved from a German soldier.
