Food Trucks Go to College in Napa
The kitchen in Napa Valley College ’s cafeteria may be empty, but stomachs are still full as the college launches a pilot program to have food trucks on campus.
Six food trucks are available on campus from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
About fifteen food trucks or carts are participating in the program, with food choices varying each day.
Having a variety of food options and prices was one goal of the food truck program.
Half the trucks are now located on the south end of campus near the new library. The other three are located north, between the cafeteria and pool.
Response from students and staff has been very positive.
The cafeteria closure is expected to save about $15,000 to $20,000 per year, said John Nahlen, vice president of business and finance.
The food trucks pay $50 per day to operate on campus. Fees from the food trucks will go toward covering the college's cost for facilities staff and garbage removal.
Food is also available on campus at a small café at the library, vending machines in the cafeteria and at the college bookstore.
