Late Italian designer Gianni Versace has thrived on this precept. A collector-class, he has acquired European antique furniture, Sèvres porcelain, glass and Italian impressionist, modern and contemporary art.
When he renovated his mansion in Miami Beach Art Deco, he left no corner undecorated.He went with marble reliefs on the corners and discrete iron chandeliers palm frond that echoed the plaster trompe l'oeil designs on the walls, to a console of Charles X gilt bronze andirons and 18th century French co -existing with Roy Lichtenstein comic-like paintings.
"This is the house that really belongs to me, reflecting a mirror image of what I am, for better or for worse," said Gianni Versace.
