Every so often Laughlin is treated to a taste of the Cirque-type show that “took over” Las Vegas over a decade ago. Among these have been Chinese acrobat shows and variety shows with an aerialist or contortionist added to the mix. Shows entirely based on the colorful artistic interpretations of acrobatics, however, haven’t been staged here all that often. One of these latter shows comes to town in the form of “Carnaval Fantastique” at the Riverside Resort, Thursday-Sunday, August 25-28. The show is produced by YLS Entertainment Inc., a company familiar with the Laughlin market for they have staged Chinese acrobat shows at the Riverside in the past. But “Carnaval Fantastique” broadens the scope with talented acrobats and entertainers coming from all corners of the globe—thus, the name “carnaval,” which is close to “cirque” as a descriptive and image evoking term. “’Carnaval Fantastique’ is an international celebration,” explains Luann Canavan, one of the show’s producers. “We have performers from all over the world, representing Asia, America, Russia and South America. There’s comedy, acrobatic acts, novelty acts, aerialists, brilliant costumes and an innovative addition— full-color laser lighting effects set to original music—all set to music from beginning to end.” “Mark is our thread throughout the show,” explains Canavan. “He’s probably the third most famous mime in the world behind Shields and Yarnell. He’s been doing this longer than he wishes I tell you.
