Vulcan murder kills elderly widows second chance at love
Married for 54 years, Doreen was lucky to fall in love once.
Recently, the widow was given a second chance. But even if it was meant to be, it will never happen now, said the woman grappling with the murder of Vulcan senior Otto 'Bunty' Loose.
The 79-year-old said he was the "perfect" man.
"It was kind of scary how I was feeling . . . like I wanted to have his arms around me," she said.
The love story was tragically ended with Loose's recent murder.
Police said the 77-year-old was targeted for money and kidnapped from his home near Vulcan, about 90 km southeast of Calgary, on Jan. 8.

With police, the accused killer re-enacted the kidnapping and murder, which culminated with Loose's dismembered body being dumped in Kananaskis, Alta.
Doreen met Loose last summer when family, including a daughter who runs the Vulcan Hotel with her husband, introduced her to meet a man named "Bunty."
They quickly proved kindred spirits, talking into the wee morning hours, playing cards, both smitten.
Dapper in formal attire, she recalled Loose showing up for Christmas dinner at the hotel with her family.
They held hands, danced and talked about the future and a cruise they were to take in March with her family.
"He was looking forward to the cruise," she said, stressing they booked separate cabins. "I was just looking forward to lounging around and getting to know him.
“I never met anybody so warm and truthful towards people."
In retrospect, she said his trusting nature may have been his undoing.
"He said, 'I'm not afraid of anybody,'" she said, recounting a recent conversation. "I was going to talk to him — at his age, he should be.”
Funeral arrangements are still being made for the senior while Doreen grieves the friend she lost.
"I never realized there could be two people like my husband," she said. "I am going to have a hard time getting used to him not being around.
