Anton ADT Center Moves to Madisonville
HOPKINS COUNTY, KY (1/10/12)—The Hopkins County School District’s Adolescent Day Treatment (ADT) center reopened after the winter break in a new home.
The program has moved from the old Anton school to 110 Sugg St., Madisonville.
The new location offers an improved facility with lower operating costs, according to Assistant Superintendent Steve Gilliam.
The Sugg Street facility went through a complete renovation, including installation of a new HVAC system, electrical service, floor tile and walls. Telephone, high-speed internet, SMART Boards with projectors, and security lighting were installed. The entire building was painted inside and outside. Cost of the project was about $135,000.
“We’re still getting settled in,” said Principal J.E. Barlow.

The program moved from a 28,000-square-foot building with antiquated, inefficient heating/cooling to a 5,000-square-foot facility with new, efficient utility systems. Cost of the renovation should be recouped in two to three years because of savings in the cost of utilities and transportation, Gilliam said.
Students’ first day in the new building was Thursday, January 5th. There are about 19 students enrolled in the alternate program at this time.
“We brought them in that morning, and explained, ‘This is our new home,’” Barlow said.
Employees said they appreciate the renovated facility and the new technology, but are still adjusting to the reduction in space. The biggest change involves the loss of the gym.
Work still to be completed includes the installation of security cameras and demolition of neighboring buildings. The parking lot will be expanded this summer.
ADT had been in Anton since 1998. This is the program’s second time at 110 Sugg St., where it was located from 1986-1993.
