Danny O’Brien is one of several young quarterbacks in the Atlantic coming off a successful freshman campaign in which he helped lead the Terps to a nine-win season and passed for nearly 2,500 yards with a 22-8 touchdown-to-interception ratio. He’ll lose playmakers Torrey Smith and Da’Rel Scott, but there’s enough returning at the skill position to expect that the Maryland offense will be effective in O’Brien’s second season under center. Davin Meggett will be back after leading the team with 720 yards rushing, while wide receivers Kerry Boykins, Kevin Dorsey, Quintin McCree and Ronnie Tyler will look to replace Smith and Adrian Cannon. Tight end Matt Furstenberg should also be factors in the passing game. Protecting O’Brien and clearing the way for Meggett is an offensive line that struggled with injuries in the spring. If the line can stay healthy and the skill players continue to play well in the fall, the offense should be on the right track in Edsall’s first year.
Joe Vellano and A.J. Francis are the men in the middle along the Terps defensive front. Isaiah Ross is going to be looked upon to bring pressure off the edge, while Maurice Hampton should provide for a solid rotation on the interior behind Vellano and Francis. Kenny Tate moves from safety to play a linebacker/safety hybrid position called the Star. He was the second-leading tackler behind Alex Wujciak and will likely be one of the Terps most active defenders once again. Demetrius Hartsfield will play in the middle this year, moving inside from the weakside where he has ample starting experience. Cameron Chism and Trenton Hughes will be the starting cornerbacks, but questions at safety must be answered. Eric Franklin and Matt Robinson are expected to get the nod and should be a big part of the defense this year. One of the keys to another successful defensive campaign will be to keep the turnovers coming. Maryland ranked fourth in turnover margin last year thanks in large part to their 19 interceptions—and there were several players who contributed.

Even so, $60 million remains a hefty price tag for the south Florida hub. “We didn't scale it to the Miami market because we feel that a house like this in the Hamptons [New York] would be $100 million or in Saint-Tropez [France], $150 million,”
