The Hills Series Finale Ending

Finishing the story of a group of young adults in Southern California, "The Hills" series finale ending left fans wondering a highly debated conundrum of if the reality series was real or simply a scripted series portrayed as real life.  The series finale and ending of "The Hills" aired on MTV on July 13, 2010, during a special that included many of the cast members appearing live at a red carpet event.  

"The Hills" chronicled the lives of Lauren Conrad, Brody Jenner, Audrina Patridge, Kristin Cavallari, Lo Bosworth and Heidi Montag and husband Spencer Pratt, among others.  The concept first began when the friends were high school students in a series titled "Laguna Beach" and continued as each began their careers in Los Angeles on "The Hills."  

The ending of the series finale of "The Hills" showed each cast member moving on with their lives.  Audrina Patridge moved from the busy city to the beach, Kristin Cavallari, distraught over a breakup with Brody Jenner, planned an extended trip to Europe, and Lo Bosworth explored taking her romantic relationship with longtime boyfriend Scott Hochstadt to the next level.

While the series finale of "The Hills" wrapped up the story lines of the cast members, it poked fun at an ongoing debate over the show's authenticity.  For several seasons, critics and viewers alike wondered if the relationships and drama were real or scripted.  

In the ending of "The Hills" series finale, producers only added heat to that fire.  After saying her goodbyes to Brody Jenner, Kristin Cavallari stepped into a car and headed off towards the Hollywood sign.  As Brody Jenner stood watching, the camera panned out to reveal the characters were actually on a production set, completed with a fake backdrop, crew members and camera men.  

As MTV fans' jaws dropped around the world, the cast members were quick to provide an explanation to the mysterious ending.  Lo Bosworth in fact wrote a blog post to address the big twist in the ending of the season finale of "The Hills", explaining that they were simply poking fun at the rumors.
